In the predominantly male oriented world of DJ-ing, Dusana Skrbic (Artistic alias: Miss Kay Dee) has proven she can mix it up with the best.
Born on November 26, 1985 in Novi Sad, Serbia, Miss Kay Dee was destined to be involved in the world of music. Her first musical contact was established during early childhood when she began singing at various local festivals. She quickly expanded her musical repertoire with formal piano lessons at age 7 and dance from age 10. Always an overachiever, Miss Kay Dee took a special interest in Latin-American dances, competing in and winning numerous dance competitions.
As a teenager, her love of all sounds, especially the funky disco House sounds drove her towards the world of electronic music. In 2003, she focused on vocal improvement through intense solo singing lessons and eventual enrollment in a high school specializing in music.
She purchased her first vinyl in early 2005 and soon after enrolled in DJ-ing lessons. With daily practice, she quickly mastered the technique of record mixing and gradually created her own signature style based on Funky, Disco, Tech House and realized these music genres were her true passion in electronic music.
In 2005 Miss Kay Dee began performing in House and underground clubs throughout Serbia and in 2006 she expanded her territory to include clubs in neighboring South-Eastern European countries including Hungary, Montenegro, Bosnia, Macedonia and Croatia. During the same year, she became a resident DJ at Radio AS FM, a prestigious Serbian electronic music radio station. As a rare female DJ playing vinyl, Miss Kay Dee combined her good looks, sexy mesmerizing style and her impeccable mixing techniques to establish herself as a highly desirable commodity on the regional electronic scene. Through dedication and professionalism, Miss Kay Dee has remained faithful to the analogue sound of vinyl and has become a passionate record collector.
In 2007, she started working at a music studio which afforded her the opportunity to hone her music versatility and, at the same time, transition into the world of music production. During this year, she worked as a recording and live sound production technician at one of the largest European music venues, the Exit Festival, where she had the privilege to meet John Digweed, Trentemoller, Roger Sanchez, and Frankie Knuckles, all prominent and inspiring DJ-s.
Desiring to learn the American House scene which differs significantly from the European scene, Miss Kay Dee traveled to the United States in early 2008. Living in New York and Los Angeles provided her the unique opportunity to enrich her vinyl set with the addition of the American House sound.
After her emersion into American music, Miss Kay Dee returned to Europe and toured throughout South-Eastern Europe during 2009 and 2010. She performed in various clubs in this region where her strong presence led to public awareness of her superb choice of quality music and her keen ability to mix, blend and combine tracks to create positive energy. This, in addition to her ability to mix on both turntables as well as DJ decks, made her a force to be reckoned with. Simply put, Miss Kay Dee did not just play quality House music, she became a synonym for it.
Miss Kay Dee’s first internationally acclaimed accomplishment occurred in 2010 when she performed in front of over 2000 people alongside the world renowned UK singer, Amanda Wilson.
In the summer of 2011, she returned to the Exit Music Festival, this time as both a headliner with her personal DJ set and as an opening set DJ for world renowned production act Syke ‘N’ Sugarstarr.
In 2012. Miss Kay Dee had several international appearances, performing in front of audiences in Warsaw, Poland and Dubai, United Arab Emirates amongst others. During the same year, she attended several big music festivals in the region, specifically the SoundLovers Festival where she performed side-by-side with the legendary Junior Jack as the female Headliner in front of more than 3000 visitors, as well as the unforgettable two-night appearance at the Exit Festival 2012, showcasing her own DJ set, and also promoting her radio show – House Of Grooves to over 5000 music lovers. At the end of the 2012 summer festival season she had one more huge performance at RUFoam Fest, delivering her music LIVE to over 3500 spectators, while playing as an female Headliner alongside world famous David DJ. This year was especially productive for Miss Kay Dee, as amongst other accomplishments, she also released her debut track titled “Do It Right” on UK based House music label Tasty Recordings. The track was a big success and was featured for two weeks on Traxsource.com Essential House Chart, peaked at #20 on the same store and held position within Top 100 tracks for over six weeks on both Traxsource and Beatport music stores.
In addition, Miss Kay Dee is producing and hosting an extremely popular House music based radio show, titled House Of Grooves together with well-known UK based DJ/Producer – Audio Jacker. Since the beginning of the show, Miss Kay Dee had collaborated and received support from many esteemed and affirmed artists from all around the world, such as Coqui Selection, Jay Vegas, Danism, K-Klass, Yves Murasca, Dirty Freek, Pray For More, Syke ‘N’ Sugarstarr to name a few.
